Alice Springs Future Grid and Solar Connect VPP

Alice Springs Future Grid is a multi-stakeholder systems project to deliver initiatives that will increase the capacity for renewable energy systems on the Alice Springs grid.

The Solar Connect Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is one of a series of innovative trials, models and investigations within the Alice Springs Future Grid project. It will be the first residential VPP in the Northern Territory and is due to become operational in early 2022.

Householders, who meet the criteria outlined on the Future Grid website, are invited to participate. Pathways to participation include residents with Solar PV and a battery, with PV only, those who want to increase the size of their PV while still being able to export to the grid, and those who are willing to install the technologies in time for the start date of the trial.

Installer opportunity

A number of local solar and battery installers will have the opportunity to be engaged by the Alice Springs Future Grid project to undertake works and site assessments for the Solar Connect VPP trial.

Installers wishing to participate will need to obtain accreditation from the project’s VPP platform provider.

The accreditation training, is free of charge and takes around 1 hour to complete, go to the SwitchDin Academy training program website.
